Kyle Chalmers slams media as Cody Simpson learns fate

Kyle Chalmers has hit out at sections of the media for its coverage of him at the Australian Swimming Championships in Adelaide.

The 23-year-old was absent when Australia named its team for the  World Championships and Commonwealth Games, citing mental health concerns.

The Olympic swimming champion finished second in the men’s 100m butterfly and initially planned not to swim the event at the World Championships in Budapest.

However, Chalmers later said he had reconsidered and with only the top two spots getting a ticket to Budapest, he closed the door on pop star Cody Simpson.

Although Simpson misses out on the World Championships, he will be apart of the Dolphins squad for this year’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Chalmers hit out at those claiming his decision was based off rumours surrounding Simpson’s relationship with Chalmers’ ex-girlfriend, fellow swim sensation Emma McKeon.

Simpson revealed Chalmers reached out to him to clear the air as their selection story dominated the headlines.

Simpson said he was just thrilled to part of the emerging blockbuster butterfly rivalry between himself, Chalmers and first-place swimmer Matt Temple.
