Fox Footy’s pundits say Bailey Smith needs support after social media content of him leaked, but that the Western Bulldogs star’s behaviour must be “challenged”.

Both the Bulldogs and AFL Integrity Unit are investigating images that show Smith with a bag of white powder.

A separate video has since emerged showing the 21-year old wiping his nose after leaning over while out with friends.

It has since been confirmed the content was captured after the 2021 season while players were on personal leave.

Smith has opened up on his 2021 struggles and admitted he “spiralled out of control.” He also apologised to the football community and took ownership of the behaviour.

In mid-December last year Smith was granted indefinite leave from the Bulldogs for personal reasons before returning to the club just before Christmas.

Speaking on Fox Footy’s Best on Ground, former Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley expressed a level of sympathy for the young gun, but highlighted that Smith is a role model.

As a coach you support the person, but you’ve really got to challenge the behaviour because it’s not something that's going to help him become the best version of himself.

— Nathan Buckley

St Kilda great Nick Riewoldt said he thought Smith owned his behaviour “as well as you possibly can,” and now it “becomes an education piece”.

You clearly challenge the behaviour, but now if you’re the Western Bulldogs and the AFL and AFLPA you wrap your arms around and support the person as well.

— Nick Riewoldt
