With four Australian beaches named in the top 10 alone, it’s clear we punch well above average when it comes to our coastline.

To say Australia is known for its beaches would be a grave understatement. As the largest island continent on the planet, our coastline boasts over 10,000 beaches spread across 50,000 kilometres of coastline — all of them pristine, and most of them largely unspoilt by overdevelopment or pollution. So it stands to reason that as far as worldwide polls go, Australia fares well when it comes to beautiful beaches.

And a recent poll by the luggage storage experts at Bounce backs this claim. According to TikTok views alone, Australia is home to four of the most popular beaches in the world, with a tally of 20 of ‘The most popular worldwide beaches on TikTok’ proving just how picturesque our Aussie beaches really are. It’s a similar situation when it comes to Instagram, too, with Sydney’s iconic Bondi Beach taking out the top spot, according to a Bounce poll of ‘The most popular worldwide beaches on Instagram’.

Of course, with TikTok spearheading the worldwide trend and news cycle, it’s hard to overlook the TikTok data — those viewing numbers don’t lie. Like most lists, Bounce’s beloved beaches study is full of surprises, with some unexpected entries making the top 10, while some other no-brainers are conspicuously absent (Ipanema Beach, we’re looking at you).
