Marriott Bonvoy shows no signs of slowing its expansion in Australia. Today, the hospitality group announced that it will open The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne in March 2023.

Located on Lonsdale Street in the heart of the CBD, The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne will be grand in scale. The 80-storey property will boast 257 rooms and suites and aim to coalesce the brand’s signature refined luxury with a hyper-local ethos and design sensibility.

“The opening of The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne will bring a new landmark to this great city,” said Antony Page, the hotel’s general manager, in a statement. “We look forward to unveiling this stunning property and to welcoming guests with the warm hospitality, refined ambience and the legendary service for which The Ritz-Carlton is renowned the world over.”

The hotel will pay homage to its city surrounds with artwork and decor by Melburnian creatives as well as locally-inspired culinary experiences. Initial renders reveal an expansive infinity pool, complete with floor-to-ceiling glass windows with views of the metropolis beyond. The venue will also include a restaurant, bar, meeting and event facilities and “holistic wellness spaces.”

Sky-high views over the Yarra won’t be reserved just for those in the penthouse or pool: the lobby will be situated on the highest floor, allowing every guest to take in the sights from the moment they check in.

This hotel marks the second operational Ritz-Carlton property in Australia, joining The Ritz-Carlton, Perth, which opened in 2019. The Sydney venue closed its doors in 2001 and was rebranded as the InterContinental Double Bay.

Another hotel is set to open at the end of 2023 in Brisbane’s Queen’s Wharf, followed by a Gold Coast outpost in 2026.
