Six Senses will open its first Australian property in Victoria.

Burnham Beeches Estate in Victoria’s Dandenong Ranges has been chosen as the location for the first Australian Six Senses Resort and Spa.

Located about 40km from Melbourne’s CBD, the 22ha property and heritage three-storey mansion will be transformed into a luxury 43 room resort and include a restaurant and bar, wellness spa and “rooftop retreat”.

The resort group, which is currently in 17 countries, is currently planning to add another 34 resorts to its current portfolio of 20 properties.

Sustainability is a key part of the new development, with a vegetable garden and an Earth Lab – an initiative designed to share the resort’s sustainability efforts with its guests – incorporated inside a separate pool house complex.

A premium glamping offering is also part of the resort’s masterplan, which will bring the total accommodation to 82, subject to planning approval.

“For Six Senses Burnham Beeches to be regenerative, it will not be a static place,” Six Senses CEO Neil Jacobs said. “We’ll evolve and respond to bring the rich heritage of Burnham Beeches to life, inviting moments of exploration, discovery, connection to nature, and delight through interactive gastronomy, wellness, and sustainability experiences.”

The property and grand residence, which was designed in the 1930s by architect Harry Norris and originally owned by the Nicholas family (the founders of Aspro) was purchased by Trenerry Consortium in March from celebrity chef Shannon Bennett for $16.6 million.

To complement the resort, The Consortium is also planning to develop a Village Square which will offer various hospitality and food outlets under names such as The Hearth, The Barn, Steak House, The Baker, Brew House, and Providore.

“As plans progress, a key strategy of the Consortium continues to be to engage and listen to the local community and Council, Heritage Victoria, and Parks Victoria.” Trenerry Director Robert Dicinti said.

Six Senses Burnham Beeches is expected to open mid-2025.
