Ponant’s yacht is a Kimberley cruise game changer
Guests will arrive on Paspaley’s vintage Grumman Mallard flying boats and have private access to the brand’s pearl operations in Kuri Bay.
Ponant’s flagship, three-masted sailing yacht arrives in the Kimberley for the first time in April 2023 for a six-month season in partnership with the Paspaley Group.
Sleeping only 32 in 16 staterooms, Le Ponant has been refurbished bow to stern, with a sleek new fit-out by French design studio Jean-Philippe Nuel. The vessel offers adventure cruising that recalls some of the glamour of yesteryear: attentive service with a one-to-one staff to guest ratio, French-influenced food, and flights to and from embarkation points aboard Paspaley’s vintage Grumman Mallard flying boats.
The yacht’s luxury sailings of seven to 14 days in duration have been designed by Ponant’s highly qualified expedition leaders and on-board naturalists to offer a deep dive into the stunning Kimberley environment with small-group excursions in state-of- the-art Zodiacs and a focus on local heritage. Guests will also have private access to Paspaley’s pearl operations in Kuri Bay.
The 16 staterooms (including an Owner’s Suite) are spread over three decks, each with large windows, some with balconies. No luxury has been overlooked, from minibars and satellite TVs to Diptyque bath products and 24-hour room service. Common areas include a sun lounge, jacuzzi and al fresco bar along with panoramic restaurant, day spa and gym.
The marina deck is equipped with standard and glass-bottomed kayaks, paddleboards and fishing, diving and snorkelling equipment.
Rather wonderfully, Le Ponant can travel under sail, making for the ultimate barefoot adventure. It joins sister expedition ships Le Laperouse and Le Soleal, which recommenced Kimberley cruising last month; POA.
