Countries: Spain, France, Italy, Croatia, Greece, Turkey
Time: Four Weeks
- Fly into Madrid and then head directly for the Mediterranean by taking a train to Barcelona and soak up the seaside ambience of Gaudi's city.

- Cross Italy to Bari, from where you head across the Adriatic by ferry to the Croatian peals of Dubrovnik.
- Bus it south through Montenegro and Albania - two of Europe's least-known but most breath-taking gems - and then head to the beautiful Greek island of Corfu.
- From Patra, do a loop of the Peloponnese: bus to Byzantine pin-up city Mystras, the ancient heavyweight Mycenae and the bus it to venerable Athens.
- Go south to Piraeus for an island-hopping expedition to Mykonos, Paros and volcanic Santorini.
- Continue to island-hop until you've had your fill, then set sail for Turkey from Samos or Levos.
- Visit ancient Ephesus then bus north along the Aegean coast to the ruins of Troy and Çanakkale and to throbbing, beautiful and chaotic İstanbul.
