'Stop making other women feel bad': Whoopi criticises Meghan Markle

Talk show host Whoopi Goldberg has objected to The Duchess of Sussex claiming she was made to feel like a "bimbo" on the set of Deal or No Deal.

Talk show host Whoopi Goldberg has objected to The Duchess of Sussex claiming she was made to feel like a "bimbo" on the set of Deal or No Deal.

Whoopi Goldberg has accused Meghan Markle of “making other women feel bad” after the Duchess of Sussex claimed she felt objectified on the US version of Deal or No Deal

Markle spoke to her time as a briefcase girl on the game show on the latest episode of her podcast Archetypes, saying: “I was surrounded by smart women on that stage with me, but that wasn't the focus of why we were there and I would end up leaving with this pit in my stomach.

But Goldberg, 66, said on her talk show The View: “When you’re a performer, you take the gig.”

“You take the gig. Sometimes, you’re in a Bozo suit, sometimes you got a big nose, and this is just the way it is,” she said.

“We’re not journalists. We’re actors. We’re trying to get to another place.”

Goldberg also questioned Markle’s feelings of being objectified, suggesting it may have come from her own biases and how she “felt about how these women were being portrayed”.

“I feel bad because I don’t think that people were looking at these girls like this, I think people want the money,” The Sister Act actress said. “My point is if you see it, and that’s how you feel, just maybe you don’t want to make the other women feel bad because maybe they’re trying to make a living, too.”

Markle’s comments were also criticised by other presenters on the programme, including Claudia Jordan who had a stint on Deal of No Deal at the same time as the future duchess.

Jordan said the women were selected mainly because they had “the most outgoing and fun personalities”.

Markle appeared Deal or No Deal 16 years ago. She initially stood beside briefcase number 11 for two episodes, then moved to number 24.
