A Stranger Things inspired playlist
It’s been a long time between drinks but Netflix’s beloved sci-fi flagship Stranger Things is back, and whipping us into a synthy, ‘80s maelstrom.

The kids are alright, we are discovering Kate Bush. ‘Running Up That Hill’ has finally hit No. 1 status, 37 years after its release, thanks to its prominent feature in the first episode of the new season.
Naturally there’s smarmy discourse unfurling online, “So people are finding out who Kate Bush is thru….stranger things.”
Pooh pooh. Let’s all rejoice the fact we are going to experience listening to Hounds of Love for the very first time. I, for one, am jealous (and always secretly hoping for a memory loss anomaly that’d revirginate my ears to ‘Waking the Witch’).
Therein lies the beauty of Stranger Things. It captures the essence of the 80s and introduces it to an audience that may not have discovered it on their own accord. Sure, there are always preternaturally cool teens that will find this stuff on their own, but what of the normies? Like The Perks of Being A Wallflower did with Sonic Youth and Galaxie 500, Stranger Things is doing with Kate Bush and Psychedelic Furs.
So in the spirit of discovering the old. Here’s a playlist, filled with ‘80s gems — some that you probably already know, and some that may surprise you.
