What happens on the field is supposed to stay there, but lippy visiting wicket keeper Rishabh Pant was in on the joke when the Australian and Indian sides visited the lodge yesterday.

Australian captain and wicket keeper Tim Paine had cheekily observed during the Melbourne Test that with MS Dhoni flying in to keep for India’s ODI squad that Pant would be out of a job and offered him work with his BBL franchise, the Hobart Hurricanes.

“We might get [Pant] down to the [Hobart] Hurricanes, we need a batter,” Paine was heard to say.

“You’d fancy that, Pantsy — extend your little Aussie holiday. Beautiful town Hobart too. Get you a nice apartment on the waterfront.

“Have him over for dinner. Can you babysit? (Can I) take the wife to the movies one night, you can look after the kids?”

When Pant ran in to Paine, his wife Bonnie and their two children Milla and Charlie at Kirribilli House he proved that he was at least up to part of the job — the children seemed to agree. Bonnie certainly did, posting a picture of herself and the kids with Pant,on social media and nominating him: “The best babysitter ever.”

There have been the odd heated moment on the field, but the two sides were full of compliments for each other when they arrived in Sydney.

Paine thanked the Indians for the way they played, saying it was helping Australians fall in love with the game again.

Kohli said Australia was one of his favourite places to visit because when he walked in to bat he knew everybody on the field and in the stands all wanted him out.

India leads the 2-1 and is on the verge of an historic first-ever series win in Australia if they can draw or win in Sydney.

The fourth and final Test begins tomorrow at the SCG.
