Winter Olympics 2022: Snowboarding star Tess Coady claims first Aussie medal
Australia has won its first Winter Olympic medal in sensational fashion through the heroics of young star Tess Coady.
Australia has won its first medal at the Beijing Winter Olympics in sensational fashion.
Snowboarder Tess Coady has delivered big time on the biggest stage of all to claim the bronze in the women’s slopestyle final after an incredible performance.
Coady - who had to pull out of the last Olympics four years ago when she injured in practice - made up for that heartbreak with an inspired display to get Australia on the podium.
She qualified eighth for the 12-woman final but threw down the gauntlet on the first of her three runs when she posted an imposing score of 82.69 points.
She eclipsed that in her third run - with a score of 84.15 - which was good enough to secure the bronze medal for Australia.
Coady joins Torah Bright as only the second Australian woman to win an Olympic medal in snowboarding.
Because of Coady’s amazing performance, Australia has now won at least one medal at each of the last eight Winter Olympics, with more expected to come in the Chinese capital.
