Western Australia loses eight wickets for one run in worst 50-over total in domestic history

Western Australia has crashed to the second-lowest total in Australian domestic 50-over history after losing eight wickets for one run in a crazy hour of cricket on Friday.

Powerhouse WA, which has won five of the last seven titles, collapsed from 2-52 to be all out for 53 against Tasmania at the WACA.

It was the lowest 50-over total in Western Australian history and worst since 2003, when South Australia was demolished for 51 by Tasmania.

In-form all-rounder Beau Webster, named in Australia A’s line-up to play India, claimed 6-17 off 5.4 overs as the Warriors crashed from 2-52 to all out for 53.

Webster, last year’s domestic player of the year, has been touted as a potential Test bolter with Cameron Green ruled out of the upcoming five-match home series against India through injury.

Incredibly, the batters from no.5 to no.10 in the hosts’ line-up were all dismissed for ducks. Webster claimed the scalps of Cameron Bancroft, D’Arcy Short, Ashton Turner, Cooper Connolly, Jhye Richardson and Joel Paris.

Lance Morris was unbeaten on zero.

The 30-year-old also scored a century in the Tigers’ opening Shield game of the season against Victoria, which ended in a draw.

Former Aussie quick Billy Stanlake took 3-12 during the chaotic collapse.

Tasmania’s wasted no time in the chase, as opened Mitchell Owen belted a four and a six off Jhye Richardson’s first over.

Owen smashed three boundaries and two sixes on his way to a 17-ball 29, and while Morris had him caught out by Cooper Connolly, the damage was done.

Matthew Wade blasted a six and three fours on his way to an unbeaten 21 from 13 balls to have the target reached, and game won, in just 51 balls.
