Nick Kyrgios has scuttled suggestions defeat at Wimbledon would trigger a mid-career sabbatical.
Nick Kyrgios has scuttled suggestions defeat at Wimbledon would trigger a mid-career sabbatical, by confirming plans to compete in World TeamTennis ahead of next month’s US Open.
The All-England Club was awash with rumours Kyrgios’s second-round loss to Rafael Nadal would be followed by an indefinite break from the sport.
Kyrgios will make one appearance this month for the Washington Kastles alongside teammates Venus Williams and Frances Tiafoe before returning to the ATP Tour.
Kyrgios and Nadal combined to produce one of the matches of this year’s Wimbledon.
Triple champion Boris Becker was in raptures over the quality of the contest, while Nadal said Kyrgios clearly has the ability to win a major, providing he committed fully to the sport.
Kyrgios has taken a short break in the Bahamas.
After his match for the Kastles, he will target the Citi Open in Washington from July 29-August 3.
He then has Masters series tournaments in Montreal and Cincinnati before the August 26-September US Open.
West Australian Astra Sharma will play for the San Diego Aviators in the 44th season of World TeamTennis, a competition co-founded by Billie Jean King.
