Bushfires: Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Rafa Nadal head tennis fundraiser

Some of the biggest names in world tennis will gather in Melbourne next Wednesday night for a Rally for Relief fundraising activity for bushfire charities.

Tennis Australia chief executive Craig Tiley has confirmed that Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal and Naomi Osaka will all participate in the event on Rod Laver Arena.

Nick Kyrgios, who added another $5000 to the tally when serving 25 aces in a superb victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas, will add local flavour to the event, with tickets now on sale.

The Australian No 2, who will play alongside his teammates in an Ashes-style quarterfinal against Great Britain in Sydney tomorrow, also served 20 aces in his opening ATP Cup win over Jan-Lennard Struff, which takes his contribution to $9000 from his serve alone.

NBA great Dirk Nowitzki, who is a keen tennis fan, spotted the promise from Kyrgios to donate $200 for every ace the Australian hits this summer and has vowed to match the pledge.

2018 Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki, who has announced she will retire after playing in Melbourne, will also be at the charity event.

Tiley expects to unveil more players in the coming days.

Seven-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic and Australia’s top ranked players Ash Barty and Alex de Minaur are competing in Adelaide next week but have already made significant contributions.

Previous Rallies for Relief for victims of the Queensland floods and Haiti hurricanes have raised more than $1 million.
