The person was holding a banner that read: “Abolish refugee detention”.

World No.1 Novak Djokovic shone a light on the human rights issue when he was put in detention at Park Hotel, with Djokovic supporters and those campaigning for the freedom of the refugees combining outside the Melbourne building earlier in January.

But the court invader was tackled so quickly that not many fans could even tell what it said.

Host broadcaster Channel 9 refused to give the foolish fan any airtime after he threatened the momentum of the match and potentially the safety of competitors Rafael Nadal and Daniil Medvedev.

Security guards crowded both players as soon as the invader landed on the court to ensure they remained safe.

Nadal was down a break point, but serving for the second set when the incident occurred.

But Medvedev broke back and forced it into a tie-breaker.
