There was a comeback, great kicking, explosions of speed and crucial results racked up in an action-packed round three of the Super Rugby U16s and U19s series.

The much anticipated battles between the Waratahs and Reds lived up to expectation in both age groups of the Super rugby competition in round three with a comeback in one and a close call in another.

The clashes between the Brumbies and Melbourne Rebels also had plenty of bite - and some sensational individual performances.

The Super Rugby tournament throws a light on the rising stars of the sport and there were plenty of head-tuning tries and performances in round three.

SUPER RUGBY U16’S ROUND THREE RESULTS, TOP SCORERS

QUEENSLAND REDS V NSW WARATAHS

They were on the road and it showed in the first stanza of this important game for the NSW Waratahs.

The Reds dominated the early proceedings before the Tahs came good to take a 50-20 victory into round four.

New No.8 and country player Selesitino Mainakavika opened the scoring off a scrum with others Tahs scorers Flynn Farrell, Kden Carter, Keone Anitelea-Tsioussis, captain Justice Taumoepeau and Jarryd King and Darcy Feltham with two each.

Talen Risati made five conversions.

Harrison Asi had the honour of scoring first points for the Reds with captain Agapetos also going over along with Hemi Rakuita.

ACT BRUMBIES V MELBOURNE REBELS

In the ACT v Melbourne match, the Brumbies broke through for their first victory of the season with their 36–17 win over the Rebels.

After being beaten 53-19 by the Reds a week earlier, Calem Spooner and BJ Pumpa were the stars of the show for the Brumbies with three early tries.

Winger Uhila Tai also added points as did Xander Stoddart in the second half.

Thomas Jensen and Aidan Wunsch made a conversion each.

The Rebels went over three times thanks to Lewis Brinkworth Girls, Ratu Ifereimi Tuibua and Dharczy Vaiimene.

Samson Tuaine converted two.

SUPER RUGBY U19’S ROUND THREE RESULTS, TOP SCORERS

QUEENSLAND REDS V NSW WARATAHS

The 19s battle, won by the NSW Waratahs 42–31 was way too close at times for the Tahs coach Dan England but a great match for the fans.

The Waratahs only outscored the Reds by a single try as they upped the ante in their bid to win the U19 crown they lost last season.

Captain Eamon Doyle was a standard as Hwi Sharples, on the comeback from injury, helped Tom Klem to the first try of the match.

Liam Grover scored the first of his two in the first half with Brendan Palmer, Sid Harvey and Matteo Cleverley all scoring.

Finlay King scored two tries with the Reds other scorers Xavier Rubens, James Martens and Daniel Maluka.

ACT BRUMBIES V MELBOURNE REBELS

The Brumbies racked up their biggest scoreline of the season in the 19s match with their resounding 59–15 victory.

Bailey Bouquiaux was the standout with a trifecta of tries.

Sixers other members of his team also went over the trial line for the big win.

Malakye Enasio, Sam McLachlan, Jonthan Ryan, Wally Wentzel, Hamish McDonald and Lachy Smith.

Sam McLachlan was outstanding with five conversions with Joe Dylan nailing two.

Xander Iosefo and Journey Wana scored the Rebels only two tries with Jackson Jury converting one and nailing a penalty in the 40th.
