Brumbies hooker Josh Mann-Rea says the playoff contenders cannot afford to be complacent against Japanese expansion franchise the Sunwolves in Canberra on Saturday.

The Sunwolves have only won one game so far in their debut season in Super Rugby, but Mann-Rea said they had played well in their past two games against the Stormers and the Queensland Reds.

“The last two weeks they have had really good performances,” Mann-Rea said. “They drew with the Stormers and last week (against the Reds) they created a lot of opportunities, which they didn’t capitalise on. They could have won that game.

“Their scrum is really good. The Reds heave a good scrum and they went well against them.”

An upset loss to the Sunwolves would be disastrous for the Brumbies, who are one point behind the NSW Waratahs on the Australian conference table.

With a relatively easy run home, the Brumbies should finish on top of the conference, but they cannot afford any slip-ups, especially as the Waratahs have a game in hand.

“We’ve got a few home games,” Mann-Rea said. “It’s always good playing at home.”
