Former Wallabies captain Nick Farr-Jones cleared over loan
Former Wallabies captain Nick Farr-Jones has been cleared of any wrongdoing in relation to a $56,000 loan.
Former Wallabies captain Nick Farr-Jones has been cleared of any wrongdoing in relation to a $56,000 loan from the NSW Rugby Union to ex-Wallabies No 8 Jim Williams.
It was revealed two weeks ago that Farr-Jones, a former NSW Rugby Union chairman, and former chief executive Bruce Worboys, authorised the loan to Williams, who was an employee of the union and in financial difficulty, in August last year.
It was alleged Farr-Jones and Worboys used money that had been granted to the NSWRU by the federal government for an indigenous education program known as Learn, Earn, Legend.
Federal grants must be used only for the specified purpose.
The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet found the money had not been misused.
“All funding provided to the NSWRU … has been fully acquitted in accordance with the terms and conditions of the funding agreement. The department does not intend to take any further action,” PM&C said.
Farr-Jones, who went guarantor for the loan to Williams, repaid the $56,000 to the NSWRU in March.
