Paris Olympics 2024: Matildas team tracker, who will secure the final spots in Australia’s squad?

There are still a handful of Matildas spots up for grabs for as Tony Gustavsson nails down his final Olympic squad. And he’s been given timely news from a backline rock. ERIN SMITH’S full analysis inside.

Sam Kerr’s defence team files arguments in racism case

The Matildas have regained a key player in the lead up to the Olympics with Clare Hunt back on the park for PSG.

The defender, who was unleashed during last year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup, had a question mark blinking next to her name after suffering a stress fracture in her foot in March.

Hunt played her first domestic minutes for PSG on May 9 - on the park for 63 minutes.

She was an unused substitute in PSG’s semi-final win over Paris FC, 5-4 after penalties.

Hunt’s return to the field is a huge boost for the Matildas, just a few weeks away from their final international hit out before the Olympics.

There is still an injury cloud hovering over midfielder Katrina Gorry who had ankle surgery last month.

The injury ruled her out for the rest of her season in the WSL with West Ham but she is yet to reveal if she will be fit for the Olympics and Football Australia haven’t provided any updates.

Videos and clips on her social media show Gorry is now out of the moon boot and walking without crutches but we are yet to see her with the football boots on.

Courtney Nevin is also still battling a hip injury.

While captain Sam Kerr is back training with Chelsea after rupturing her ACL in January - she is still very unlikely to be named in the Olympic squad.

Midfielder Amy Sayer has also been ruled out after rupturing her ACL while playing for her club in Sweden.

The Matildas will assemble in Adelaide next week ahead of the first of their two-game series against China on May 31.

The second match will be played in Sydney on June 3.

CODE Sports breaks down who we can expect to be named in the Olympic squad with the locks, possibles and bolters.
