Olympic champion Kyle Chalmers has pulled out of July’s world swimming championships and is to undergo surgery for a heart condition.

Rio Games 100m freestyle gold medallist Chalmers has supraventricular tachycardia, or a rapid heartbeat that is normally non-life-threatening but can impact quality of life.

“We decided it was in Kyle’s best long-term interest to get the surgery done sooner rather than later,” the 18-year-old’s coach Peter Bishop said.
