Kookaburras beat Egypt 4-0 in World League

The Australian men’s hockey team enjoyed a comfortable 4-0 win over Egypt in the quarter-finals of the World League.

The Australian men’s hockey team have enjoyed a comfortable 4-0 win over Egypt in the quarter-final of the World League Semi-Final in Johannesburg.

In Kookaburra captain Mark Knowles’ 300th game Australia moved into the last four and qualified for the 2018 World Cup in the process.

On the Kookaburras’ third penalty corner attempt of the game Jeremy Hayward converted, giving them a 1-0 lead. Jake Whetton was next to score for Australia, with a pass from Knowles.

A scramble in front of the net in the 20th minute of play saw Kiran Arunasalam take a shot on goal which was saved by Egyptian goalkeeper Ahmed Adel, before Daniel Beale took another shot at the net with the ball going into goal courtesy of a tap-on by Matt Swann.

The Kookaburras next play in the semi-final today against the winner of the Belgium-New Zealand quarter-final.
