Former Australian swimming world champion James Magnussen has called it. Mollie O’Callaghan is on the path to greatness.
O’Callaghan overcame training partner and 200 metres freestyle world record holder Ariarne Titmus to claim a famous individual gold medal – and her first – on the third night of swimming finals in Paris.
In the aftermath, Magnussen went out on a limb during the latest edition of the Matty and the Missile podcast with Matthew Johns.
“I’ll call it here now Matty. Mollie O’Callaghan will go on to become our greatest Olympian in history,” Magnussen said.

O’Callaghan added the 200 metres freestyle crown to her 100 metres freestyle relay gold on night one.
“I predict she’ll win the 100 free individual. They’ll win the 4 x 200 free and they’ll be right thereabouts to win the 4 x 100 IM which would end up 5 gold medals at one Olympics for one swimmer.”
O’Callaghan’s win took Australia’s gold medal tally to five after three nights in the pool two ahead of the USA, where ‘the rivalry is fever pitch says Magnussen.
In this latest instalment of his chat with Matty Johns in Paris, Magnussen also spoke of the people you bump into when walking around an Olympic city and how preparations are going for his participation in the much talked about Enhanced Games.
