Alex Pullin off to a flyer as Winter Olympics draws near

Dual world snowboard cross champion Alex ‘Chumpy’ Pullin is off to a flyer in the Winter Olympic season, winning the first two World Cup events in Argentina.

Pullin dominated both events, showing superior speed to win the eighth and ninth World Cup events of his career in perfect conditions at Cerro Catedral.

“I’m stoked to take the win at the first World Cup of the tour,’’ he said after the first race yesterday.

“The track and the weather were both bloody beautiful. The course was great. I’m just very excited that I put down a win. There is no better feeling than crossing the line when there is no one in front of you.”

He backed up today in almost identical fashion, taking command of the race at the top of the course and holding his advantage to the finish line.

“I felt fast in training so I knew I should be pretty good today with the racing again,’’ he said.

“I just had to keep the body feeling good and positive vibes The first few heats got underway and they were pretty good and then, yeah, I was just able to do it again and lead the heat from the start, find some daylight and go. Feels amazing, unreal. I couldn’t be happier to be honest. It’s a perfect way to start the season.”

The strong Australian team had three men in the top ten today, with Adam Lambert fifth, after winning the consolation final, and Jarryd Hughes eighth.

Pullin, who turns 30 next week, will now return to Australia for more training before the World Cup circuit resumes in December. The Winter Olympics will be held in PyeongChang, South Korea, from February 9-25.
