What’s the Buzz: NRL bosses shocked as Channel 9 axe 100% Footy for Paris Olympics

NRL bosses are fuming after Channel 9 dumped its flagship Monday night rugby league program 100 Percent Footy for the duration of the Paris Olympics.

State of Origin Game 3 Wash-Up | The Daily Telegraph NRL Podcast

Channel 9 has dumped its flagship Monday night rugby league program 100 Percent Footy for the duration of the Paris Olympics, much to the disappointment of NRL bosses.

Rather than watching Gus Gould, Paul Gallen, James Bracey and a rotating journalist talking all things footy, we’ll instead be treated to fencing, handball, judo, table tennis and badminton mixed doubles on the first Monday night of the Games.

The decision has shocked NRL bosses, who were not even told of the decision. They had no idea it was being ditched until your columnist phoned late last week with the news.

With State of Origin pushing the main competition into the background for the last eight weeks, NRL bosses were hoping for a premiership resurgence on the back of coverage from their media partners.

The Nine rugby league show covers off on all the major issues and controversies from the weekend round.

It is shown live on 9 NOW and replayed late on Monday nights on the network’s main free-to-air channel.

Nine has invested $300 million to win the Olympic rights and have other plans.

They are saying they have no studios available in Sydney or Melbourne because of their coverage of the Olympics on Nine, 9 Now and Stan.

This is poor form.

The host James Bracey is in Paris for the Olympics but the very talented Emma Lawrence has stepped up previously on hosting duties.

Surely they could have made a bigger effort.
