Teen at centre of alleged Latrell Mitchell racial slur given warning by NSW police

Police have completed their investigaton after Latrell Mitchell was allegedly racially abused by a teenage fan during South Sydney’s clash with Penrith last week.

The teenager at the centre of the alleged Latrell Mitchell racial slur has been given a warning by NSW police.

The NRL’s integrity unit is still completing its investigation after the incident last Thursday.

Police confirmed their investigation was complete.

“Following inquiries by officers attached to Nepean Police Area Command, a 14-year-old boy has been spoken to and issued a warning under the Young Offenders Act,” NSW Police said in a statement.

South Sydney players have stood firm in their belief the teenage racially abused Mitchell as he walked from the field at half-time during the Rabbitohs’ clash with the Panthers last Thursday.

South Sydney are keen on working with the NRL to help with a resolution but did not want the matter pursued further by police.

The NRL confirmed they were still looking into the incident.

“The NRL is aware the NSW Police Force has completed its investigation into an incident at Penrith involving Latrell Mitchell,” the statement read’

LThe Integrity Unit has been liaising with police and will soon finalise its own investigation.”
