SuperCoach NRL 2025: How players are taking advantage of new Flex position
The brand new Flex position has arrived for 2025 and here are the numbers that show how SuperCoaches are using it to their advantage.
SuperCoach NRL has introduced one of the biggest and most exciting features in the game’s history, with an all-new Flex position, and SuperCoaches may have already identified the best way to take advantage of it.
But what is the Flex position? Well if you missed the memo, basically your team now comprises of 26 players instead of 25, and each week you will have a starting line-up of 18 players, 17 of whom will count toward your final score for the round, with the Flex essentially eliminating your lowest score.
The best way to think of it is similar to an 18th man in real-life NRL. An extra player, ready and available if your player gets injured or ruled out with concussion.

So now that we’ve refreshed our memories of how the new feature works, how are SuperCoaches taking advantage of it?
Exclusive data has revealed that SuperCoach Guru Tom Sangster was right on the money when he claimed that getting an extra fullback into your team may be the way to go.
As you can see, the numbers show that fullback is by far the position most SuperCoaches have opted to choose for their Flex, with popular cheapie Isaiah Iongi the clear favourite at the position.
In fact, the numbers show a whopping 33,095 SuperCoaches at least, or 46.21% of the total player base so far, have opted to run with a fullback in their Flex.
Fullback is the highest scoring position in SuperCoach and has been for a long time, so it seems there is a clear trend toward trying to maximise points scored by going with three fullbacks instead of two. Or in the case of Iongi, using the Flex position as a cash generation tool, while likely running with two gun fullbacks in their line-up.
While most SuperCoaches seem to be keen to run with a third fullback, the next most represented position among the top 20 Flex players is halfback, with six players.
In other important SuperCoach stats news, week one of the Pre-Season Challenge has come and gone, and although it consisted of only two official matches it has made a significant impact on the top-10 owned players, with Luke Metcalf surging up the charts to now be the eighth most popular player overall and the most popular 5/8 by far.
