A STREAKER who disrupted the closing stages of the State of Origin decider will likely be banned for life from ANZ Stadium when he faces court next month.

The 33-year-old, identified in media reports as Wati Holmwood of Tempe in Sydney, ran almost the length of the field on Wednesday night, tripping just short of the try line two minutes from full time.

His actions handed Queensland another set of six tackles and deprived NSW - trailing 12-10 - of the chance to head down the other end to score.

The man has been charged with wilful and obscene exposure and entering or remaining on a playing field without authorisation.

He has been issued with a court attendance notice to appear in Burwood Local Court on August 6.

Police say he is also expected to be issued with a notice banning him from future events at ANZ Stadium.

"Whether he is banned from future NRL matches would be a matter for the NRL," a police spokesman told AAP.

Chief Superintendent Peter Gillam said Holmwood's streak was ``not only dangerous but also idiotic and senseless''.

''No one wants to see a grown man running around naked at a footy match and this man can expect to not only feel the wrath of the crowd but also a magistrate,'' Supt Gillam said.

NRL officials believe he is the same man who ran onto the field when Wests Tigers played the Warriors in an NRL finals game in 2011.

However, police could not confirm this.

ANZ Stadium spokesperson Arthur Stanley said the man had managed to evade security guards on Wednesday night by entering the field in an "unusual spot".

"We're disappointed that it happened but it happens in sport from time to time.

"He came on (at) a very unusual part of the field, so he got through the first line of security and then it took a little while to stop him."

While Queensland prop Matt Scott was denied a try due to the pitch invader's actions, NSW players stewed over the intruder's intervention and their own inability to capitalise on several scoring opportunities.

NSW forward Ryan Hoffman didn't hold back when asked about the streaker who he said tripped him as he attempted to make a tackle on Scott.

"I think the days are long gone of it being funny and being a laugh," Hoffman said.

"For someone to get right in the middle of the action is I think a bit alarming and a bit concerning and hopefully after this it will be rectified."

Asked what he would say to the streaker, Hoffman said "You're an idiot, mate."

Queensland fullback Billy Slater was able to see a funny side to the incident.

"He must have some pace the big fellow, he's done well, hasn't he?" Slater said.

"Is he a Queenslander?"

Maroons forward Sam Thaiday even showed some sympathy towards the intruder, even though he said Scott was filthy at being stripped of a rare try.

"Old mate has probably had a few too many drinks, got a bit of courage up and his mates were probably into him," Thaiday said of the streaker.

Police say 27 people were ejected from the stadium for a variety of offences, including intoxication and anti-social behaviour.

A further 10 were arrested for offences including entering the field, throwing an object, offensive behaviour and assault.
