Phil Gould has opted out of becoming a player manager
Phil Gould has decided to withdraw his application to become a player manager as he closes in on a role with Warriors.
Phil Gould has given the strongest indication yet that he is Warriors-bound after withdrawing his application to become a player agent.
A week after Gould submitted his application to the NRL, he informed the governing body he had changed his mind and would no longer pursue a role as a player manager.
The decision comes only a matter of days after The Australian revealed he had been in discussions with the Warriors over taking a consultancy role with the club.
It is understood a position at the Warriors could be confirmed within days, along with the appointment of Nathan Brown as the club’s new head coach.
Brown originally withdrew from the race to be Warriors coach, devoting his energies instead to landing the job in North Queensland.
However, he subsequently pulled out of the Cowboys job and put his name back in the mix for the Warriors.
He is set to join the club on a three-year deal, an announcement likely to be made after he club plays against Manly on Friday night.
