NRL SuperCoach wrap round 20: Key fact SuperCoaches are forgetting about Tom Trbojevic
Thinking of buying Tom Trbojevic this week? Close to 40,000 SuperCoaches will be on the bandwagon by lockout but it’s worth thinking again.
Origin is over, the bye season is gone and now we have some sort of normalcy by SuperCoach standards.
The next big goal for SuperCoaches is pulling together a final side for head-to-head finals (which start in round 23) and/or overall ranking.
Thankfully a host of proven stars have fallen to barely-believable prices.
KEY DETAIL EVERYONE’S FORGETTING ABOUT TURBO
* Tom Trbojevic (158)- Yes, Turbo will rightly be one of the most purchased players of the week alongside Nathan Cleary. But it’s important to point out he has a tough match-up against the Roosters in the coming week followed by the bye. He then has a great run home for the start of SuperCoach finals - Raiders, Warriors, Tigers, Bulldogs and Sharks. Turbo was only on 23 at half-time but produced one of the best second halves you’ll see to crack the 150.
CHEAP GUNS
* Nathan Cleary (109) - Very promising return from a serious injury. He will be the most purchased player of the upcoming round. Should dip to a $150,000 discount on his starting price.
* Angus Crichton (74) - The Roosters’ best scorer - backing up from Origin no less. But with a BE of 121, he’ll drop to around $140,000 below his peak price.
* Payne Haas (55) - While Haas’s price never fluctuates too much due to his consistency, the best prop in SuperCoach will be available for close to his cheapest price of the season this week.
* Kalyn Ponga (49) - Should be available for under $700,000, which is simply unheard of, likely with more price drops to come. Struggled on the weekend but in positive signs he did take some kicks at goal.
* Zac Lomax (DNP) - The Dragons had the bye on the weekend but Lomax sits with a BE of 159 and should dip to a great price right for the start of the SuperCoach finals.
WEEKEND WINNERS
* Heilum Luki (105) – The second rower scored twice, made five tackle breaks and a line break while producing 30 tackles.
* Josh Curran (76) – The prop was enormous. He scored a try, ran 205m, had 73 post contact metres and made 42 tackles.
* Jacob Kiraz (72) – The Bulldogs winger had a fruitful day for SuperCoach users who will be looking to keep him going forward.
* Daine Laurie (124) - Produced a more-than-believable Dylan Edwards impersonation in place of the injured Origin fullback.
* Jack Bostock (94) - The young Dolphins winger is in the midst of one hell of a breakout season.
* Luke Brooks (113) - Loving having Turbo back in the team. The Sea Eagles now have so many focal points in attack.
* David Fifita (84) - Back with a decent score after a few quiet weeks. Top scorer in a well-beaten side.
* Reuben Garrick (82) - Solid performance from the most popular captain of the round but couldn’t quite cash in with a whopper.
* Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow (124) - The Panthers simply couldn’t handle his pace. Two tries, a try assist and three line break assists.
* Harry Grant (74) – The Melbourne hooker was all class and seems to have shaken off a sternum injury. He had two tackle breaks and made 33 tackles.
* Reece Walsh (111) – The fullback wasn’t without error but did some sublime things on the field. Walsh ran for 183m, scored a try and assisted with two others.
* Deine Mariner (126) – Another energetic performance from the youngster who scored two tries, had three line breaks and ran 171m.
* Damien Cook (89) – Cook played most of the game at right centre and was a solid plug, playing a simple game and doing his role for the team. The crafty Rabbitoh was also exceptional from the tee, kicking seven of eight attempts at goal.
* Lachlan Galvin (83) – This kid just never backs down, putting in another great performance in a losing side. Galvin is always looking for work and has a great offloading ability.
* Hudson Young (119) – Did his damage in the first half with an incredible 96 points on the back of an early double. A quiet second half, but was still the best score of the night by a huge margin.
* Addin Fonua-Blake (96) – There’s a reason why he is one of the most popular front rowers in the game. His late try should’ve sent the Warriors to golden point.
* Mitchell Barnett (93) – Returned from a great Origin debut with an incredible showing, finishing with a try and 73 minutes. All heart.
* Roger Tuivasa-Sheck (71) – Played the majority of the game at fullback and with the leading two options on the sideline, will likely play next week at the back again.
WEEKEND LOSERS
* Jayden Campbell (32) - Extremely popular buy over the last few weeks but just couldn’t land a punch in a well-beaten team. Will peak in price either this week or next and SuperCoaches face a big decision on whether to move him on.
* James Tedesco (30) – The fullback played 80 minutes but just couldn’t inject himself into the game as much as he would have liked against his bogey team the Storm.
* Terrell May (41) - The SuperCoach favourite inexplicably got reduced minutes and it’s always tough going in the middle against the Storm.
* Patrick Carrigan (30) – The big man did some courageous things but just lacked the tank to execute all game after his incredible effort in the State of Origin decider.
* Sam Walker (30) - The match-up against the Storm was always going to be tough and so it unfolded.
* Jacob Gagai (36) – Gagai had one memorable run down the right touchline but it was a relatively quiet night for the Rabbitohs right edge after Richard Kennar was injured, moving Cook to centre and starving the wing of any ball.
* Dallin Watene-Zelezniak (24) – A very quiet outing from the star winger as he failed to make much of an impact on the contest. A tough watch for owners.
* Taine Tuaupiki (-2) – Hard not to feel sorry for the Warriors fullback. Had an unhappy start before being ruled out of the game with a Category 1 HIA.
