NRL SuperCoach Buy, Hold, Sell round 15: Best purchases for second big bye
The second big bye is here and it’s all hands on deck with Origin players out and seven teams on the buy. But there’s one player you simply can't miss out on.
The second big bye is here and it’s all hands on deck with Origin players out and seven teams on the buy.
BUY
* Nathan Lawson - Last week’s most popular buy will be the most popular buy again this week. The 19 points were hardly encouraging as the Dragons were smashed by 50, so don’t expect huge price rises. But the job security is good given he won his spot ahead of Tyrell Sloan and the other winger Christian Tuipulotu injured his hamstring again on the weekend. Far from the best cheapie, but still cheapie of the week by a long way.
* Keaon Koloamatangi - Three straight tons in a row and if you don’t own him he’s a must. Pending of course his availability given he will be named in the extended squad for the Blues. It all depends on how many squad members the Blues take over to Perth.
* Haumole Olakau’atu - Averaging over 100 in the last two weeks and over 70 for the season. But like Keaon, he is likely in the NSW squad and his availability for the Sea Eagles hinges on how many squad members NSW take on the long travel west.
* Herbie Farnworth - Best CTW buy of the last month and nothing has changed.
* Jacob Kiraz - Most CTW action last week surrounded Farnworth and KL Iro. But plenty already own Farnworth and Iro is injured. Meanwhile, Kiraz returns early from an injury of his own on Monday and he has the best average of any fit CTW in the competition (although unfortunately has the price tag to match).
* Jacob Preston - Back from a long suspension this week, has a good bye schedule, won’t play Origin and still has the fourth best average of any 2RF this year.
* Jayden Campbell - The 27 against the Broncos was hardly what owners wanted, but it was an aberration in a very consistent season so far. The low score also means he dips well into the $600,000s so is very affordable. Sea Eagles, Eels, Cowboys and bye is a pretty solid schedule.
* Daly Cherry-Evans - Queensland’s loss could be a SuperCoach gain. DCE under $500K is almost unheard of and he covers the next two big byes.
* Beau Fermor - Snubbed by the Maroons which is a huge gain for SuperCoaches. The 66 season average is very handy in an up-and-down CTW position.
* Jamayne Isaako - The POD option at CTW this week. Coming off 132 and can go large on the wing and kicking goals in a great attacking side.
* James Tedesco and Scott Drinkwater - With Ryan Papenhuyzen on the bye (but then with a dream schedule after that), and fullback remaining the key position for SuperCoach, Teddy and Drinky remain the top assets in the position. Yes, even with the steep prices.
* Tom Trbojevic - If you can’t afford Teddy or Drinky, Turbo is the cut price option for those who like living on the edge. Will be named for the Sea Eagles after a quad injury.
HOLD
* Payne Haas, Nathan Cleary, Cameron Munster - First things first. Don’t expect ANY Origin players to back up given the long travel from Perth and if they do it’s a bonus. That means a host of Origin players will miss 15, 16, 18 and maybe even 19 if they fail to back up from the final Origin. But do you really sell the cream of the crop?
* Tino Fa’asuamaleaui - Repeating all from the last dot point except Tino is carrying a sternum injury. POD hunting SuperCoaches could cut the cord now and hope to get an edge, although it’s a risky play given how good Tino’s been this year.
* Hugo Savala - Set to revert to a bench role for the Roosters with Sam Walker (ACL) aiming to return. But with a BE of -8 and a bench spot assured, he’s ideally a hold for another week.
* Thomas Jenkins - We originally had him on the sell list after a string of average scores and a tough bye schedule. Then he banged out 150 to set up more rises.

SELL
* Savelio Tamale – Carried off with a serious medial ligament injury. He’ll be the most popular sell of the upcoming week.
* Corey Horsburgh, Zac Hosking – Great SuperCoach contributors but have done their jobs. Sell.
* KL Iro - Picked up a pectoral injury over the weekend and is set to miss significant time, although there is no solid timeframe at time of writing.
* Lehi Hoppoate - The second most popular purchase of the week suffered a category one concussion on the weekend. With a bye next week, he therefore misses the next two rounds and is unlikely to play fullback when he returns given Tom Trbojevic is back this week.
* Isaiah Iongi and Jordan Samrani - Peaked cheapies who have done their jobs and now have rough schedules.
