SuperCoach NRL: Buy, Hold, Sell Round 7

A game-winning try from Xavier Coates puts Melbourne atop the NRL ladder at the start of round 7.

See who made all the difference, and who underperformed and underwhelmed for their SuperCoach owners.

STUDS

1. Jahrome Hughes (74). An underwhelming topscore for the night, Hughes was the first man over the line tonight and demolished is round 6 score of 47.

2. Eliesa Katoa (69). The second Melbourne man to score, Katoa succeeded both his projected 63 and break-even 57.

3. Xavier Coates (61). Not the most impressive score from the Storm winger, but he did secure victory for his team with a late try in a game where points were hard to come by.

DUDS

3. Joseph Manu (57). Not entirely a dud score, but certainly a severe drop from round 6 (117). A try could not outweigh the radio silence.

2. Terrell May (33). He is yet to disembark the ‘disappointment train.’ For the next three weeks he is projected to climb $46,800 – though trading him in could be a risky move based on previous results.

1. Cameron Munster (35). Still looking under peak form from a groin injury, Munster – other than a sin binning – was barely heard from all game. His 35 points in just shy of half the projected 63, and well short of his 89-point break-even.

73RD MINUTE

Xavier Coates has kept Melbourne’s flame alive, scoring against three Roosters (conversion made, Nick Meaney).

It means Coates surpasses his 48-point projected, and with a break-even of just 28, is on track to increase in stocks next week.

Projected to further climb in round 8, now might be the time to invest in replacement of an injured Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow.

67TH MINUTE

As the saying goes: better last than never for Joey Manu.

The winger has broken a 67-minute dryspell, scoring on the right win (conversion successful, Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii) and levelling the scores to 12-all.

Manu’s SC points have rocketed to 56, and though still a significant drop from round 6, edges him closer to the predicted (and acceptable) 75.

55TH MINUTE

Cameron Munster has offered a moment of madness, tackling Rooster’s James Tedesco before retreating 10m to get onside during a stock standard restart. In the bin for 10 minutes, Munster’s night has already been quiet, but is unlikely to feature a boost.

HALFTIME TALK

Storm’s Jahrome Hughes got off to an early start and didn’t back off, racking up 44 points by halftime – 28 off his projected and 32 off his break-even. Originally projected to drop in stocks, Hughes could give us a shock if he continues on the points train.

Joseph Manu, having moved from fullback to left centre this week, is having an exceptionally quite game with just five touches and just 21 SC points. That means 4,000+ coaches are having impulse-regret for trading the star in after his round 6 performance.

30TH MINUTE

Eliesa Katoa has come over the top of previous tryscorer Michael Jennings, coming down with a twist and turn to add another to Melbourne’s score.

The second rower now sits on 46 SuperCoach points, atop the ladder, and could be on track to a similar score seen in round 5 against the Broncos (110).

Already increasing $400,000+ in stocks this season, Katoa is predicted to move up a further $5,000 after this round. It’s good news for those who bought in early, but may be too late to bandwagon.

17TH MINUTE

All he had to was jump on the ball, and Michael Jennings found himself with four points for the Roosters and 22 SC points of his own.

It puts him just eight behind his predicted 30, but still a fairway off his break-even of 60.

13TH MINUTE

Arguably the best running half in the game, Jahrome Hughes has opened the tab for Melbourne as first tryscorer, finding the right wing at full steam (conversion successful – Nick Meaney).

Having notched up a mediocre 47 SC points in round 6, Hughes is projected to reach 71 points this game to the delight of his 8,504 owners.

4TH MINUTE

We’re only four minutes in, but a poor judgement call from the Storm has resulted in the side losing its captains challenge after just three sets.

Jahrome Hughes’ clearing kick may have given Lindsay Collins a nifty haircut, but any other team would have withheld from challenging – knowing there was no inclination of him playing at the ball.

LATE MAIL

Roosters skipper James Tedesco returns to the side after being absent for their round 6 victory over Newcastle, while the halves pairing of Connor Watson and Luke Keary is retained. Sam Walker meanwhile continues to progress through the Club’s return to play protocols.

The Storm’s starting 17 features a shuffle with Nelson Asofa-Solomona returning to the first-grade field from the interchange bench, while Josh King and Christian Welch are set to make their impact in the starting line-up. Grant Anderson has dropped away to the Hostplus Cup, replaced by Jack Howarth as 18th man.

PRE-GAME

Welcome to our live coverage of Thursday’s clash between two NRL premiership heavyweights – the Roosters and Storm.

While the clash between veteran coaches Trent Robinson and Craig Bellamy is mouth-watering, SuperCoaches will have their eyes trained on popular buys Angus Crichton and Joey Manu.

Aside of course from the Panthers, these two sides are arguably the most successful teams of the last decade and the clash between veteran coaches Trent Robinson and Craig Bellamy is mouth-watering.

It’s also and extremely SuperCoach-relevant game with a host of popular buys running out.

At the Roosters, Angus Crichton (second) and Joseph Manu (fifth) are extremely popular buys this week.

Meanwhile, the Storm welcome back popular early-season cheapie Joe Chan, who has been named on the bench after a hand injury and merely needs to take the field to make cash.
