NRL 2024: Josh Addo-Carr meets with NRL integrity unit in two-hour grilling
Josh Addo-Carr’s future at the Bulldogs is now at the crossroads, after he was subjected to a marathon two-hour grilling as he faced up to the NRL integrity unit at League Central.
Josh Addo-Carr has enlisted judiciary gun for hire Nick Ghabar after the Bulldogs star was subjected to a marathon two-hour grilling at NRL headquarters on Thursday afternoon.
Addo-Carr faced up to the NRL’s integrity unit for the first time since testing positive to a roadside drug test which has now cast severe doubt on his immediate playing future. The winger was forced to try to explain how cocaine ended up in his system despite Addo-Carr denying taking any illicit substances.
Addo-Carr was represented by Ghabar at the meeting which took place at 330pm and ran for about two hours.
Ghabar is no stranger to the NRL’s Moore Park offices having been a near permanent fixture for judiciary hearings in recent seasons.
This time though the case was very different. Ghabar drove Addo-Carr inside the NRL’s underground carpark with privacy blinds stopping anyone from seeing the Bulldogs star sitting in the back seat.
Addo-Carr was also joined by his agent Mario Tartak.
Once inside the building, Addo-Carr tried to avoid being captured by awaiting media outside. He ran across the railing and also crouched down in a bid to not be photographed.
Addo-Carr’s future at the Bulldogs is now at the crossroads. He is due to meet with Bulldogs boss Phil Gould which could happen as early as Friday.
Addo-Carr accepted a $682 fine and a three-month suspension from driving for the offence.
The NSW and Kangaroos star has 12 months left on his Bulldogs contract worth about $500,000.
Addo-Carr missed the Bulldogs’ loss to Manly on Sunday afternoon after initially failing a roadside test for cocaine, and then an oral sample which was taken at the scene. Canterbury’s head of football Phil Gould said Addo-Carr’s version of events “changed slightly from day to day depending on what had been revealed”.
