Having fallen short of a premiership himself with the 2009 Eels, Hayne typified the excitement of thousands of blue and gold supporters following their win over the Cowboys on Friday night.

Using footage of honking cars and chanting Eels fans that turned the city of Parramatta into grid-lock, Hayne posted on his Instagram: “If your (sic) not from western Sydney you wouldn’t understand.’’

The former Parramatta fullback even went as far to predict that Penrith would beat South Sydney in Saturday night’s preliminary final.

“Eels v Panthers GF. Be one of the best eva!!.’’ Hayne wrote.

He also had a cheeky dig at the NRL match officials who controversially allowed an Eels try against the Cowboys in the first half, that was scored following an apparent forward pass.

“Can we have same ref n touchies next week! Cheers!,” Hayne wrote.

Hayne has largely stayed out of the spotlight after the Director of Public Prosecutions announced they would elect to try the 2009 Dally M winner a third time on sexual assault charges in March next year.

Under the terms of his bail conditions assigned last April, Hayne is required to report to Merrylands Police Station each Friday between the hours of 5am and 10pm.
