South Sydney Rabbitohs winger Tyrone Munro set for surgery after collarbone fracture
South Sydney’s win over the Dolphins has come at a cost, with scans confirming winger Tyrone Munro is set for an extended period on the sideline.
Scans have confirmed the worst fears for Tyrone Munro with the South Sydney flyer to go under the knife on Wednesday.
Munro was sent for scans and visited a specialist on Monday after suffering a collarbone injury in the Rabbitohs win over the Dolphins last weekend.
Scans showed Munro had fractured his right collarbone and requires surgery to repair the injury.
It’s expected he will be sidelined for around 6-8 weeks.
This is Munro’s third serious collarbone injury after suffering two fractures last year.
It’s understood the latest fracture is in a new position to the previous injuries.
Souths are skinny for outside back options although Fletcher Myers would be a robust replacement option for Munro.
The rising Souths star had scored two tries against the Dolphins before suffering the injury.
NRL Physio Brien Seeney took to social media to vent his disappointment.
Ty Munro wonât be back tonight with early reports suggesting a collarbone issue.

If confirmed would be his 4th collarbone injury in 2.5 years - 2 fractures just last season. Tough bone to protect in rugby league but canât say Iâve seen anything like this before, feel for him. pic.twitter.com/IWwN9fHwiw

While Munro was a notable omission at Monday’s training session, rookie playmaker Jamie Humphreys looks set to retain the No.7 jumper this week against St George Illawarra with English halfback Lewis Dodd training in a rehab bib on Monday.
Souths have also lost Latrell and Shaq Mitchell, along with skipper Cam Murray, to injury this season, while Jack Wighton has been suspended for one match after being hit with two charges.
Win leaves Bennett with a headache

Wayne Bennett is only one game back into his coaching career at the Rabbitohs, but he faces a potentially season-defining call in round two with Jamie Humphreys doing everything in his power to keep his spot in the team ahead of Lewis Dodd.
The Englishman was South Sydney’s big signing at halfback and the man who was supposed to replace Lachlan Ilias, but he missed the thrilling 16-14 win over the Dolphins due to a suspension he picked up in the pre-season.
Dodd would have started if he was available but he may be forced to bide his time in reserve grade after Humphreys kicked the Dolphins into submission with 711 metres off the boot.
The one-time Sea Eagle made 22 tackles with just one miss and will be hard to drop after he complemented Cody Walker in the halves as South Sydney showed life even without the injured Cameron Murray and Latrell Mitchell.
And after a hellish couple of years for the club, Bennett’s return, Campbell Graham’s comeback and their young halfback’s performance on Friday could be the godsend they need to turn things around.
NO FAIRYTALE FOR WOOLF
Life after Bennett is never easy, but Dolphins coach Kristian Woolf must be immensely proud of his players given everything that’s going on back home.
This was supposed to be a home game in front of their fans, but Cyclone Alfred saw the game relocated with three Dolphins opting against making the trip to Sydney to stay with their families.
No one could begrudge them, but those who decided to play fought hard with Jamayne Isaako scoring twice as they looked set for a famous win with 15 minutes to go.
They had their chances to steal it at the death, but Junior Tupou found out the hard way that Graham is one of the best defensive outside backs in the NRL, while they strangely opted against attempting a two-point field goal.
OH NO MUNRO
Everyone in the rugby league world has their fingers crossed for Tyrone Munro after the luckless winger suffered another suspected collarbone injury which saw him fail to return after the halftime break.

Munro showed off his freakish try-scoring ability with a first-half double but the Souths winger is now in serious doubt for their next game after succumbing to what would be his fourth collarbone injury in three seasons.
Munro has shown plenty of promise in his limited opportunities, and Bennett will have no choice to keep picking him if he stays fit, with Isaiah Tass shifting to the left edge to score the try that put the Bunnies back in front with 13 minutes remaining.
The master coach will also have a big call to make at fullback after Jye Gray set up Munro for the first try of the night and ran for 149 metres in the first half alone as he continues to punch above his weight.
