Former St George captain Mark Coyne is set to join the ARL Commission in a move which could eventually result in him taking over from Peter Beattie as chair.

Coyne will join the commission in February, taking the place of Chris Sarra. Club chief executives and chairs were notified of Coyne’s impending appointment this afternoon.

It is understood as part of that communication, the clubs were also informed that Beattie would remain as chair for at least another 12 months.

Current commissioners Doctor Gary Weiss and Wayne Pearce have also been appointed for a further three years. Coyne is one of the most respected figures in the code, having carved out a successful business career in retirement.

His appointment will ease the concerns of many in clubland, who had questioned whether the commission had enough club DNA as par of its make-up.
