Fears Luke Metcalf has suffered ACL injury in Warriors loss to the Broncos

The Dally M race may have been blown wide open, with the Warriors sweating on scans for star halfback Luke Metcalf, amid fears he has suffered a devastating knee injury.

The Warriors are sweating on scans of Luke Metcalf’s knee with fears the halfback has suffered a torn ACL after being hit in a polarising tackle from Broncos forward Brendan Piakura that will come under the microscope of the NRL match review committee.

In what would prove a devastating blow for the Warriors, Metcalf will undergo scans in Auckland on Monday to determine whether he has suffered a season-ending torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Metcalf is acutely aware of the magnitude of the lengthy setback having suffered a torn ACL in 2019.

Piakura was placed on-report in the closing stages of the second-half for collecting Metcalf with a heavy body shot after the Warriors playmaker had passed the ball.

No penalty was awarded to the Warriors.

Metcalf stayed down, needing to be assisted from Suncorp Stadium by the Warriors trainers.

The serious knee injury for Metcalf would also throw the Dally M’s wide open.

Warriors fullback Charnze Nicoll-Kolkstd also suffered a shoulder and knee injury during the loss to the Broncos which will also require scans.

“We have to wait for scans for both Luke and Charnze but they won’t be playing in two weeks, I can tell you that,’’ Warriors coach Andrew Webster said.

“They’ll get scans and we’ll know more then.’’

Such has been the level of excellence from Metcalf’s breakout season, the 26-year-old led the Dally M count on 31-points prior to voting going behind closed doors in round 13.

Cronulla’s Will Kennedy was second on 29-points followed by Roosters captain James Tedesco on 28-points.

A shattered Metcalf needed to be consoled by the Warriors coaching staff inside the dressing rooms.

Metcalf will undergo scans once he returns to Auckland.
