Jett Cleary mirrors Nathan’s famous 2023 grand final heroics
This is the stunning footage that proves Jett Cleary has his famous brother’s footballing DNA coursing through his veins. Watch the Cleary comparison.
Jett Cleary went to New Zealand to make a name for himself but several moments of magic for the Warriors’ Jersey Flegg side over the weekend have drawn eerie comparisons to his superstar brother Nathan.
The Auckland-born Cleary, 20, showcased his impressive game which was highlighted by plays which resembled some of his older brother Nathan’s moves in his greatest performance in the 2023 NRL grand final win over Brisbane.

It was deja vu on Saturday as the Warriors’ under-21s side beat the Dragons in Auckland after Cleary ran down the right edge, shaped up with the ball in two hands and beat three defenders to set up Ezekiel Davidson-Faaiuaso who scored in the corner.
The play was reminiscent to the start of Penrith’s miraculous comeback in the NRL decider two years ago when Nathan opened up the Broncos’ defence to send prop Moses Leota under the black dot to score.
Nathan Cleary then sealed the victory when he got the ball swinging around the ruck at first receiver, stepped inside Broncos halfback Adam Reynolds before beating Billy Walters, Jordan Riki and Reece Walsh to score under the posts.
Last weekend, Jett Cleary was on the right side of the field when he took the ball against St George Illawarra, but he, like his brother, swung around the ruck, stepped back on his inside and beat three defenders to score next to the posts.
Ironically, part of the reason Cleary left Penrith was to avoid comparisons with Nathan, but the family’s rugby league DNA hasn’t allowed that to happen.
While he still has a long way to go in his development, Cleary is impressing the Warriors with his progression.
He was initially named to make his NSW Cup debut last weekend alongside another former Panther, Luke Hanson, but instead took his place in the Jersey Flegg side when Tanah Boyd dropped back to reserve grade.
The Warriors are not looking to rush through the grades with Cleary, who is only in the first season of a three-year deal.
The Cleary family has entrusted Jett’s development to the Warriors’ system under former Panthers assistant coach, Andrew Webster.
For Penrith fans ultimately hoping for a brotherly reunion at the foot of the mountains, it seems unlikely with both Nathan, 27, and Jett looking like clones of each other.
By the time Cleary comes off contract at the Warriors at the end of 2027, he could become hot property.
Two of the game’s elite halves in Daly Cherry-Evans and Adam Reynolds will be close to if not retired from the NRL, with most other clubs desperate to lock down any good half on the market.
Oh, and we forgot to mention, just like Nathan, Jett is also a very good goalkicker, and slotted five from six conversions and a penalty goal to go with his try in the 36-30 win over St George Illawarra.
