Broncos captain Alex Glenn has revealed the Brisbane playing group held a confronting honesty session last week to address their lack of team unity.

The Broncos have come under heavy scrutiny since the Roosters inflicted their worst-ever loss – a 59-0 thrashing at Suncorp Stadium last Thursday.

The defeat followed a 34-6 loss to Parramatta the week before and came eight months after they exited the 2019 finals with a 58-0 drubbing by the Eels.

Since last Thursday’s hammering, former players, commentators and fans have lined up to have their say on why Brisbane are struggling, blaming a lack of leadership, a young roster, club recruitment and coach Anthony Seibold for the result.

But Broncos captain Glenn broke his silence to on Monday to reveal the real issue within Brisbane’s ranks – a lack of honesty among players.

Glenn did not play in the defeat due to a cut leg, but he has been hurting as much as his teammates and took part in the much-needed review on Friday.

He said for too long the Broncos players have been afraid of offending each other and that has led to a breakdown in communication over time.

“The difference between great teams and good teams is that when their backs are against the wall, the great teams come closer together, they look out for each other, they have each other’s backs,” Glenn said. “We’re the opposite. We tend to go into our shells and don’t stick strong together. Friday was our review day. We got together and had the tough conversations that we needed.

“The thing we have struggled with the last couple of years is that not everyone is willing to have the tough conversations.

“People don’t like controversy.

“If someone was taking a shortcut at training for example, we wouldn’t pull it up. “

Glenn is expected to miss Thursday’s game against Manly but should return for next week’s clash against Newcastle along with Tevita Pangai Jr (suspension).
