Ashley Klein pushed out of NRL’s referee rotation for round eight

After copping plenty of criticism for his calls in last weekend’s Storm versus Roosters match Ashley Klein will not be refereeing this weekend – but the NRL insists he has not been ‘dropped’.

Leading referee Ashley Klein has been overlooked for all matches in round 8.

The NRL is adamant Klein hasn’t been dropped, just “rested.”

Klein was involved in several controversies during last Thursday night’s match between Sydney Roosters and Melbourne at Allianz Stadium.

His demotion comes after a week after referee Kasey Badger was also “rotated.”

Klein will be used in the bunker this weekend.

The NRL claim to have employed a rotation policy this season where all referees are given a rest during the season.

Rookie referees have been awarded early-season NRL games to help prepare them for a full-time step-up in coming years.

Fans are dubious about the NRL’s “rotation and rest” policy, claiming referees should be announced as being dropped.
