Laura Geitz, one of the brightest stars of Australian netball for more than a decade, has officially retired.

Geitz, 30, who stood down from the Diamonds after the Commonwealth Games, confirmed this morning that her career with the Queensland Firebirds was also over.

Her final game was the Firebirds’ Super Netball semi-final loss to the Sunshine Coast Lightning on August 12.

After taking a year out in 2017 to have her son Barney, Geitz returned to the Diamonds for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and then played a final season with the Firebirds.

Geitz, who grew up near Ipswich, joined the Firebirds in 2008 and led them to three grand final wins in 2011, 2015 and 2016.

She played 71 Tests for Australia.
