Newly-installed NSW Swifts head coach Briony Akle has her sights set on finals in the next Super Netball season.
“The Swifts have got an amazing, successful history, for me getting them back up in the finals is priority number one. What I want to instil in those girls in the Swifties red dress is that we can get back up there and get that history started again,” Akle told The Australian.
Netball New South Wales addressed the final major question mark of the Super Netball off-season yesterday by unveiling Akle, a former Swift who won two premierships at the club, as the team’s next coach.
The position became vacant quite suddenly in July when former coach Rob Wright stepped down for personal reasons.
Although Akle is committed to the team’s strategic vision, but she seems a touch more urgent than Wright.
“I’m probably a bit more outspoken, he’s probably a bit quieter. Yeah, we’re different, but we’ve got the same vision for improving the girls,” she said.
The new coach will have plenty of time to prepare. The new season, delayed by the 2018 Commonwealth Games, doesn’t begin until May.
