F1 Hungarian GP 2023: Lando Norris’ smashes Max Verstappen’s winner’s trophy
Max Verstappen may be asking for a “please explain” from Lando Norris after his overzealous podium celebration capped off an eventful Hungarian GP.
Lando Norris and Max Verstappen may be good friends but the latter could be asking for a “please explain” – and some cash – after a costly podium celebration at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
As Norris popped the top on his champagne to celebrate his P2 in Budapest, the McLaren driver bashed the bottom of the bottle on the podium step and knocked Verstappen’s winner’s trophy onto the ground.
Images soon hit social media showing the base had completely broken off and Red Bull cheekily tweeted out asking if anyone had some glue.
As far as trophies go, this was a costly one to break.

The handcrafted porcelain memento, made by Hungarian company Herendi Porcelan, took approximately six months — and $66,000 — to make.
And Verstappen held it for all of a minute before Norris’ enthusiastic bottle-popping display.
The two drivers were able to share a laugh about the incident in the media pen post-race.
Perhaps once Verstappen learns the true value of his prize his tune may change slightly.
Though given the two-time world champion’s Red Bull contract is reportedly worth north of $80 million per season, he might let Norris off the hook for this one.
