Trainer Adam Campton has Group 1 plans for talented galloper Deepour
A promising galloper can put the disappointment of his last campaign behind him and potentially be set on a path to target the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap during the Queensland winter carnival.
Deepour didn’t show his best last campaign but trainer Adam Campton believes he can unlock the exciting galloper’s huge talent and set him on course for a Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap campaign this winter.
Six-year-old Deepour has produced some thumping wins in his career, but little went right in a Queensland summer campaign where he was unplaced in three starts.
Gold Coast trainer Campton sent him to the spelling paddock and feels it is the best he has ever spelled.
Campton has hit the reset button on Deepour, who finished fourth in last year’s Ramornie Handicap at Grafton when he was sent out favourite but had too much work to do to reel in the winner.
Campton is convinced he is an elite horse and will shoot for the stars if he comes up well in his next campaign.

“He didn’t pull up too good after his last run last preparation, but he has now had a good break and it is probably the best he has ever spelled,” Campton said.
“He doesn’t really like spelling at times, he wants to stay a bit active in the stables.
“When he comes back we will be trying to target some good (winter) carnival races with him.
“The Straddy will be his target.
“He still has to tick the box of running the trip (1400m) but if he comes back good and he is hitting the line well, we will have a go for sure.”
Deepour has a rating of 92 and would need to boost that to snare a spot in the $3m Stradbroke, Queensland’s most prestigious race.
But Campton has long been convinced he is a serious horse.
He wants him to show it when he returns to racing.
“I think the first-up run last campaign, when he got bumped around on the Sunshine Coast, might have stuffed him a bit,” Campton said.
“He didn’t have much luck in his second-up run and in his third run he didn’t feel like the horse we know, even going to the barriers.
“Hopefully he can put his last preparation behind him and produce his best this preparation.”
