Randwick Inside Mail: Trainers Richard and Will Freedman can’t avoid clash between Elettrica and Ang Pow at Randwick
A wide barrier and a big weight for Ang Pow at Eagle Farm has left trainers Richard and Will Freedman with no option but to have the gelding clash with Elettrica at Royal Randwick on Saturday.
Trainers Richard and Will Freedman are resigned to Ang Pow and Elettrica having to clash in the James Squire Handicap (1400m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday.
The father and son team had also entered Ang Pow for Eagle Farm but when the horse was allocated 60kg and drew barrier 12 for that race, they decided to keep him for Sydney.
This decision does give the Freedman stable a powerful entry for Randwick with Elettrica ($4.60) and Ang Pow ($5.50) challenging for favouritism behind only Uzziah at $4.
Elettrica, raced by James Moss’ Tricolours Syndications, goes to Randwick in very good form having won at Rosehill under 59.5kg then a game fourth behind Chorlton Lane in the Community Chest at Canberra.

“In hindsight, Elettrica was ridden a little upside down in Canberra – she has never led in her life,’’ said Richard Freedman, who was enjoying a skiing holiday in Japan this week.
“She did well to hold on to finish fourth and wasn’t beaten far. She’s in very good form, she’s a genuine mare and is always a chance in this type of race.’’

Ang Pow, a seasoned six-year-old, wore blinkers for the first time in his career and reacted well to the gear change when he ran on for second behind the smart I’mintowin at Rosehill two weeks ago.
The heavy 10 track surface at Rosehill wasn’t ideal for Ang Pow who will appreciate getting back onto a firmer track at Randwick.
“Ang Pow ran really well last start as it was only his second start from a spell,’’ Freedman said. “On his day, he’s a good horse.
“We would prefer Ang Pow and Elettrica didn’t have to clash but it is the right race for both horses.
“Will is happy with both horses going into this race, there is not much between them, and we expect both horses to be very competitive.’’

TRIAL POINTERS
Pallaton and Quietly Arrogant (race 1) clashed in a recent Kensington barrier and there was equal merit in their efforts. Pallaton showed good early speed to lead throughout and comfortably held that advantage to the line to score by a half length. Quietly Arrogant was slow away and a clear last early before bursting through the pack and closing fast on Pallaton near the line. Both colts are primed to run well on debut.
Good trial win at 2nd outing for this unraced Wootton Bassett colt.

I Am Famous (race 4) is resuming from a spell and was given a very quiet trial at Rosehill last week when she settler back in the field early and went to the line under a tight hold when seventh to Roots. I Am Famous was taken wide on in the straight and was obviously bursting to go faster so her trial effort was much better that what it reads on paper. A half-sister to The Everest winner Classique Legend, I Am Famous showed plenty of promise during winter reeling off three straight wins and she is effective fresh.

SECTIONAL STARS
Our Kobison (race 9) was leader and eventual winner Eagle Nest’s immediate chaser throughout the Starlight Stakes before finishing a game first-up second. Despite the soft 7 Rosehill track conditions, Our Kobison was able to run his final 600m in 34.05s including a slick 200m sectional of 11.12s from the 400m. Randwick’s track surface will be in the good range on Saturday which suits Our Kobison, holder of the 1200m Rosehill track record.

Accredited (race 10) followed a luckless first-up loss at Canterbury with a dominant all-the-way win under 59.5kg at Warwick Farm earlier this month. The Joe Pride-trained Accredited controlled the race tempo and led comfortably before letting rip between the 400m and 200m, producing a brilliant 10.97s, taking control of the race and bursting clear of his chasing rivals. Accredited was able to coast home over the final 200m sectional to win easily.

BEST BET
Accredited (race 10) was a good thing beaten at Canterbury when resuming. He was blocked for a run for most of the straight before bursting through to just miss overhaul Yiska on the line. Accredited then scored a deserved win at the Warwick Farm midweeks, leading throughout and scoring with ease. The Joe Pride-trained chestnut is flying this campaign and although up in grade for the Randwick closer he is the one to beat.

VALUE
Tastula (race 6) is a giant four-year-old with obvious staying ability. The further he goes, the more he likes it as the gelding demonstrated with successive wins at Canterbury (1900m) and Kembla Grange (2000m) by widening margins of more than three lengths. The Team Hawkes-trained Testula vaults straight to Saturday grade and takes on some good stayers including boom English import Gilded Water. In latest betting, Gilded Water is into $2.10 favourite but Tastula is at value odds of $10.
