A developing gelding is set for a breakthrough win while a $21 chance could spring a second consecutive surprise at Thursday’s Pakenham meeting.

BEST BET

Race 5 No.2 CAPTAIN ELECTRIC ($5)

The Savabeel gelding relished the step up to 1600m when close-up at Bendigo. He’ll continue to improve and should be around again.

NEXT BEST

Race 4 No.1 LEGIONNAIRE ($3.50)

Legionnaire was outgunned at Sandown last time but could race closer and be hard to get past at Pakenham.

Race 7 No.1 MAGARTEN ($4)

Magarten had a good run when not far away last time but drops in class for Thursday’s race. He’ll be much harder to beat here.

VALUE BET

Race 3 No.7 MASTER OF MISCHIEF ($21)

Master Of Mischief ran on well to score on this track second-up and will be fitter again. He could measure up to this harder assignment at odds.

THE JOCKEY

Luke Currie has a good book of four rides at Pakenham: AUROA (Race 2 No.9 – $12), ALBANIAN BAY (Race 3 No.4 – $21), LORD PROTECTOR (Race 5 No.6 – $23), LITTLEBIRDIE (Race 6 No.9 – $4.20).
