FIVE TO FOLLOW

BE REAL (2-length 4th of 14, Race 2): Just needed to wait to get clear running before hitting the line well behind Mare Of Mt Buller. She will be ready to win over more ground and some cut out of the ground.

ALALCANCE (4.4-length 1st of 14, Race 3): This was a dominant staying performance in the NE Manion Cup. She is heading to the Chairman’s Quality next but will take a power of beating with the light weight in the Sydney Cup.

BERNEN WIN (5.1-length 5th of 11, Race 6): He’s gone from fourth in a Midway to finishing fifth in a Group 1 and only five lengths off a star colt like Broadsiding. If you see this horse in easier grade, just back him.

BRIASA (1.8-length 4th of 13, Race 9): Take nothing away from Private Harry, he’s a genuine superstar, but you have to wonder how close this bloke would have come if he drew a gate. Follow both horses, they are destined for big things.

COCO JAMBOO (1.8-length 3rd of 10, Race 10): It was always likely she would find the 1200m too short first-up and she was unsurprisingly doing her best work late. Second and third-up over more ground she can win for sure.

STEWARDS SAY

Our Anchorage (16.1-length 13 of 14, Race 3): Found to be displaying cardiac arrhythmia post-race with the stable confirming he will now be spelled.

Al Mubhir (11.2-length 6th of 6, Race 5): Raced keenly and was left without a finishing effort as a consequence, according to jockey Tom Marquand. No abnormalities were found.

Goldrush Guru (6.9-length 7th of 11, Race 6): Jamie Melham said the colt raced too aggressively in the lead and only gave a moderate response when placed under pressure. His post-race condition will be followed up.

Within The Law (Failed to finish, Race 8): The filly appeared to panic and crashed through the running rail at the 800m. Jockey Jason Collett walked away unscathed and while she was found to have a laceration to the lateral coronary of the near hind leg and superficial abrasions to both legs, she walked away from the incident.

Eagle Nest (11.6-length 13th of 13, Race 9): Blundered on jumping. Started giving ground and became unbalanced at the 200m due to contact on its hindquarter from Commemorative. Was found to have a cut to the off-fore cannon.

CRUNCH TIME

Autumn Glow (1.9-length 1st of 15, Race 4): She was poised to pounce in the Darby Munro before letting down powerfully with a race-best last 600m of 33.41 second to win. It compared favourable across the card.

Fangirl (0.1-length 2nd of 11, Race 7): Caught three deep in the George Ryder from a tricky gate, the Chris Waller-trained mare rattled off the fastest last 600m of the race in 32.98 seconds to just miss. Gringotts (33.30) and Ceolwulf (33.06) fought out a thrilling three-way finish.

Wodeton (0.2-length 2nd of 16, Race 8):James McDonald only had two runners behind him turning for home before the colt rattled off the fastest last 600m of the Slipper in 33.70 seconds to just miss. Luckless runners Tempted (33.99) and Rivellino (33.85) were the only other juveniles to break 34.

Briasa (1.8-length 4th of 13, Race 9): Forced to go back horrible draw, the Hawkes gelding rattled off a scintillating last 600m of 32.60 seconds to finish fourth. It included splits of 10.79 and 10.60 between the 600m and 200m. Winner Private Harry ran 33.49.

TRACK TALK

I think my personal view is good two-year-olds almost train themselves a little bit. You’ve just got to stay out of the way.” — Trainer Michael Freedman on Marhoona.

“He’s a champion rider, we were lucky to get a jockey of his caliber at such a late stage.” — Freedman on jockey Damian Lane.

“She just was there to be beaten at the 100m and Wodeton got to us, she really stuck at it, so very brave.” — Lane on Marhoona.

“He was the headline horse that I had when I came back from my disqualification and he’s taken me to a Group 1.” — Jockey Tommy Berry on Gringotts.

“You know, he’s probably not a genuine 2000m horse, but he’s a brilliant horse, and he’s got up and won the Rosehill Guineas, so fair play to him.” — James Cummings on Broadsiding.

“You get these opportunities with these horses, and they’re once in a lifetime.” — Nathan Doyle on Private Harry.

“I think that’s where he breaks their hearts. He just can eyeball up in front on a hot speed and just boot off it, and they just can’t chase him.” — Doyle again.

YOU CAN BET ON IT

George Ryder Stakes: The big money was elsewhere but Gringotts proved too good from the fourth line of betting at $6 on the TAB Fixed Odds. One punter successfully wagered $3000 at $6.50.

Golden Slipper: The TAB Golden Slipper was a tough betting race with the money well spread between Tempted, Wodeton and Rivellino, but Marhoona got the win at $8.50. It was music to the ears for the TAB punter that placed $2500 on the filly at $9.50.

The Galaxy: Private Harry had been rock solid in thee betting, opening at $3.60 and winning at the same price. A $10,000 bet at $3.50 and multiple separate $5000 wagers placed at $3.50 landed.

RON DUFFICY’S ROSEHILL GARDENS SNAPSHOT

RUN OF THE DAY: So many to pick from but Autumn Glow was enormous considering she was bustled out of her comfort zone in the run and kept surging through the line in fast time. She is the real deal.

FORGET THEY RAN: Fangirl and Briasa stood out as some of the better runs of the day. The pattern of the day of inside bias was completely against them and they were both gallant in defeat.

THE BLACK BOOK: Briasa can bounce back and be a real Autumn force while Ceolwulf is crying out for a mile and further and is ready to stamp his authority now.

RIDE OF THE DAY: Zac Lloyd was the difference between winning or losing on Mare Of Mt Buller and Damien Lane just steered the Golden Slipper winner Marhoona to perfection, making all the right moves.
