The 2023 Melbourne Cup has been won in impressive style by Without A Fight ($8) for the Anthony and Sam Freedman team, with jockey Mark Zahra executing a brilliant ride on his way to back-to-back Cup victories.

The 2023 Melbourne Cup has been won in impressive style by Without A Fight ($8) for the Anthony and Sam Freedman team, with jockey Mark Zahra executing a brilliant ride on his way to back-to-back Cup victories.

It is the first Melbourne Cup triumph for the father-son training partnership of Anthony and Sam Freedman, it is also first time a horse has won the Caulfield and Melbourne Cup double since Ethereal in 2001.

Two gallopers from the Chris Waller yard filled the placings, with Soulcombe ($9.50) flashing home for second after cmissing the start, while $151 shot Sheraz was a surprise placegetter working home to finish a gallant third.
