Jockey Ethan Brown rapt with Nadal and Globe as he chases feature double at Cranbourne

Jockey Ethan Brown is a big chance of claiming The Meteorite-Cranbourne Cup double with the second favourite in both races.

Jockey Ethan Brown has claims on The Meteorite-Cranbourne Cup double-header on Saturday with Nadal and Globe in the twin features.

Nadal ($5.50) and Globe ($6) are second favourites with Ladbrokes in the respective races.

Brown saluted on Nadal two starts back at Caulfield, where he defeated the subsequent winner Kin.

Nadal placed fourth at Flemington last start, less than a length behind Meteorite rival Rey Magnerio.

Baraqiel is a $2.80 favourite for The Meteorite from Nadal and Rey Magnerio ($6.50).

“He’ll run well, obviously the favourite is a good horse but Nadal is on his way up,” Brown said.

“He’s drawn a little bit sticky (barrier 10), but he’s certainly got the ability and he’s in the right camp (Ciaron Maher).”

Globe felt good for Brown last start, second-up in the Listed Chester Manifold Stakes, before Light Infantry Man won by 2¼ lengths.

Light Infantry Man is close to favourite for the Group 1 Railway Stakes in Perth on Saturday.

“He had to do a little bit of work the other day early,” Brown said of runner-up Globe.

“He’ll really improve out of the run, his work was good on Tuesday, if he handles the warmer day I’ve got no doubt he’ll run well.”

Any success on Saturday would bookend a big week in the saddle for Brown and partner Celine Gaudray.

Brown won the Group 1 Thousand Guineas last Saturday, while rising star jockey Gaudray claimed her 80th city winner last Wednesday to officially outride her apprentice weight claim.

Gaudray has four rides on Saturday at Cranbourne, her last meeting with a 1.5kg allowance.

“I’m rapt for her (Gaudray), she’s worked hard all the way through, got the ability and she’s proven that,” Brown said.

Meanwhile, Southside Racing has watered heavily to prevent the Cranbourne surface from drying out too quickly under extreme heat.

The track has received a minimum 58mm irrigation, with scope for more Friday evening should the sun and wind bake the turf.

Cranbourne will be a borderline Good 4-Soft 5 at 7am on Saturday in a bid to ward off an inevitable upgrade until late on the card.

The $1m The Meteorite (1200m) and $500,000 Cranbourne Cup (1600m) are scheduled at 4.25pm and 5pm respectively.
