Danny Williams-trained Kreon to stamp 2025 Country Championships credentials at Wyong on Saturday
One-time Kosciuszko contender Kreon will make his much-anticipated return at Wyong on Saturday and trainer Danny Williams has big plans for the grey galloper this preparation.
Trainer Danny Williams is eager for Kreon to enhance his Country Championships credentials when the one-time Kosciuszko contender makes his return at Wyong on Saturday.
Kreon is one of five Williams-trained hopefuls for this year’s lucrative Country series and can build the platform for his assault in the TAB Highway Class 3 Handicap (1100m).
“We are trying to get him to the Country Championships,” Williams said.
“He sort of needs to run. We don’t know how he is going to go on the wet track.
“We feel confident he will get through it but to what degree, I don’t know. It’s an unknown until we race on it but it is an early race.”

Kreon has won two of his six starts to date but is yet to finish in the placings in two starts on soft ground.
He’s been off the scene since only beating one runner home in last year’s The Kosciuszko at Royal Randwick.
Williams revealed Kreon was battling niggling issues throughout the preparation but looked ready to put that behind him.
“I think he has come back a bit better,” he said.
“He hasn’t quite the product last preparation and he’s come back well.
“The last three starts we were having fitness issues with him because coming out of winter he had very sore feet.
“We weren’t able to train him like we would have liked and was bit underdone and foot sore.”

Kreon is a $5.50 chance on Saturday with Zac Lloyd aboard.
The four-year-old will being aimed the SERA Country Championships Qualifier at Nowra on Sunday, February 23.
Williams was hoping Kreon would be joined in the heat by several of his stablemates.
“Highway Strip is my leading contender,” Williams said.
“Kreon isn’t far behind and the other three are lower-grade horses that we are trying to get there in Exit Fee, She Within and a horse called Manwari, who has equally as much ability as the first two but we are just struggling with a few little things with him and he’s not producing at the moment.”
