Broadsiding, Wodeton, Autumn Glow and more prepare for autumn carnival riches
Sydney’s star-studded barrier trials featured the Golden Slipper favourite and the horse to beat in Group 1 Randwick Guineas.
Godolphin weapon Broadsiding was brilliant, Golden Slipper favourite Wodeton was in cruise control, boom filly Autumn Glow had a day out and top stayer Vauban was only getting warm late.
That’s the tale of the tape on another busy and star-studded morning of Sydney barrier trials on Tuesday at Warwick Farm.
Broadsiding, kept under a tight hold by star jockey James McDonald, caught the eye with a soft heat win over 1000m, edging out Too Darn Lizzie and stablemate Tom Kitten while one-time Melbourne Cup favourite Vauban was four lengths off the winner.
Broadsiding is set to return in the Group 2 $400,000 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) on Saturday week before heading towards the Group 1 $1m Randwick Guineas (1600m).

McDonald also did the steering on Wodeton as the Golden Slipper favourite had a tick-over trial in preparation for his return to the races.
Wodeton went to the line untouched with the son of Wootton Bassett finishing 3¼ lengths off Infant Warrior in a 790m heat.
Wodeton is nominated for Saturday’s Pierro Plate, however it’s expected the colt will run again the following week in the Group 2 $300,000 Silver Slipper Stakes at Rosehill Gardens.
Bookies rate Wodeton as a $3.50 favourite for the Golden Slipper on March 22.

Autumn Glow was making her first public appearance since the Spring and wasn’t asked to do much in a 900m heat.
The daughter of The Autumn Sun settled in the speed before fading late to finishing 3½ lengths returning Godolphin galloper Golden Mile.
Autumn Glow is unbeaten in three starts with victories in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes add Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes during the spring.
The talented filly had to be scratched when a hot favourite for the Group 1 Flight Stakes when she was forced to undergo surgery on a minor bone chip in her knee.
Waller is plotting a first-up assault at the Group 1 $750,000 Surround Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick on March 1 but could err on the side of caution if the race comes up too soon.
“It is a bit of a rush to get there and I don’t want to rush to get her there,” Waller said.
Autumn Glow is a $4.50 second elect for the Surround Stakes with stablemate and Flight Stakes winner Lady Shenandoah currently a $2.80 favourite.
